Where's the Apology?

To the Editor:

For Samuel C. Oaks, whose grandson was killed in Iraq by "friendly fire," to be dismissed by our government is an
insult to the memory of a brave soldier (front page, April 15).

Mr. Oaks did not get an apology for the botched attack that took his grandson's life, just as our nation has not
received one for sending our troops to die for a mistake. Where is the outrage?

Born rotten?

In "Abortion fights crime," op-ed columnist Michael Smerconish wrote: "The bottom line here is that
abortion is a manifestation of fatherless homes, and so, too, is crime."

Since I was raised without my father, I must be a rotten fetus and my mother must have been a criminal.
Pretty depressing!

Dean is inspiring

Conservative political analyst Dick Polman is having problems with reality in "Dean hasn't mellowed -
and that could hurt party," (May 23). He notes the problems that have arisen from Howard Dean's
outspoken ways and calls the Democratic Party "a party still mired in defeat and in search of
inspiration." As a Democrat, I long ago stopped searching for inspiration, but I have found it in Dean,
who spoke against the illegitimate war on Iraq, who is not afraid to condemn Tom DeLay for his unethical
behavior and the arrogant Bush administration's abuse of powers.

The reality is that finally the Democratic Party is represented by someone whose moral value is to speak
the truth.
